Melrose Commons Building
Melrose Commons Building- Bronx, NY
The Permanent
Supportive Housing Development is situated mid-block along 161st Street in the
northern section of the Melrose Commons urban renewal area in the Bronx, just
half a mile away from Yankee Stadium. It represents one of the final projects
within the Melrose Commons Master Plan, which began revitalizing the
neighbourhood in the 1990s. The development sits beside Elton Crossing, a
recently built multi-family residence. Together, their layout forms an enclosed
courtyard that features tiered gardens and outdoor decks.
This shared green space serves as a central gathering area connecting the two buildings. Residents can enjoy a peaceful environment away from the city’s hustle while having space to relax and grill outdoors. The design emphasizes community interaction and comfort through its landscaped terraces. The Veterans’ Building smoothly transitions between the height of the neighbouring structures, creating visual balance along the street. It harmonizes architecturally with both Elton Crossing to the west and the adjacent building to the east. Overall, the project enhances the area’s sense of connection, liveability, and urban cohesion
